MODULE 1: EXPLORE

Imposter Syndrome: College and The Workplace


Black Engineers can often feel like they do not belong in their classes or workplaces, surrounded by people who do not think or act like them. The point of this workshop is to address these concerns that professional and collegiate members may have while pursuing their engineering careers and give them ways to make them feel like they do belong.

 

Imposter Syndrome in School


Like the imposter syndrome workshop for collegiate and professionals, this workshops purpose is to lay the fears of black engineers not belonging in engineering fields to rest. However the target audience is the PCI NSBE members and focuses on teaching them that it is alright to pursue these careers and how to deal with any obstacles in their way.

Retention Program Forum

The retention program forum is an event that allows for the flow down of
knowledge from chapter to chapter on the topic of retaining members academically through the programs events themselves. Also, we discuss how to better shape the program and any feedback to be given.

Impacting Your Community

This workshop is a technical workshop geared towards teaching collegiate chapter members how to reach out and help in their communities with community service and growing their local PCI chapters. (Personal Development/Leadership Development)

Jobs in Engineering

This series of workshops is split in the different fields of engineering and highlights the careers that are available to people in those corresponding engineering fields. This workshop is mostly geared towards PCI but is also open to any collegiate members who are still searching for the type of career they may want with their degree. 

 

Website Creation

Website creation can be a great skill to obtain especially for member of NSBE as chapters are required to create websites. This workshops purpose is to teach the students the basics of website creation as well as where they can create websites.

MODULE 2: ENGINEER

​

Coding 101

This is a basic coding workshop that will teach mainly pre college students about coding and how basic coding works. The aim is to increase interest in coding amongst the students to raise the number of people entering related fields and get a basic understanding of how coding works. 

 

Computer Science and Computer Engineering Interview Preparedness

This workshop seeks to prepare CS/CE majors for interviews in their corresponding fields. Things such as common interview questions and how to impress those at the interview should be addressed. 
 

Project Management

Project management is a crucial skill for those involved in engineering. The purpose of this workshop is to teach engineering students how they can effectively manage their projects whether it be for school or later in their corresponding careers.

 

Conducting Research

This workshops purpose is to teach collegiate members how they can seek opportunities for research and what funding options they have to try and pursue. It would also work to promote the students interest in conducting research. 

 

How To Write a Grant Proposal

This workshop is meant to teach students how to professionally write a grant proposal to give them the highest chances of success when applying for research funds. The workshop will go into the technicalities of grant proposals such as the different parts and general format. (Technical Excellence/Professional Development)

 

Internships and Fellowships Workshop

This workshops purpose is to teach students about the different opportunities they have for gaining experience in college. The workshop contains a brief highlight of what these opportunities present to the applicant and how/where they can find them as well as why they should seek them. (Professional Development)

 

Resume Building for Engineers

The purpose of this workshop is to teach engineering students the basics of how to build their resumes to cater to specific companies. A few basic model for resumes should be presented and then students will be taught how to form that resume into their own.

 

Degree Specific Workshops (Multiple Workshops Available)

These will be a series of workshops corresponding to the different fields of engineering. If someone hosts one of these workshops they are free to choose what they teach the students it is technical and degree specific.

MODULE 3: ELEVATE

Scholarship Workshop

The scholarship workshop is to help people understand GPA verification and how to apply for NSBE scholarships. It can also be a workshop on creating the best scholarship application inside and outside of NSBE.

Balancing School Work with Extracurricular Activities and Jobs

This workshop aims to help students forge their time management skills to better balance their academics with their social life, hobbies, and job

 

Credit Management

The purpose of this workshop is to teach students how to gain and then maintain exceptional credit. This workshop will explore the importance of good credit and the methods of attaining it.

 

Financial Management

This workshop will teach students the importance of financial management and how they can make sure to make smart and effective financial decisions as they pursue their respective careers. Things like investment and retirement planning can also be highlighted. 

 

Investing In the Stock Market

This workshop aims to teach students how and why they should invest in the stock market. This workshop will teach students the ins and outs of the stock market and how to make good decisions when investing.

 

Upgrading from H1 to F1-B Visa

The purpose of this workshop is to teach students how they can upgrade from their student to working visas. The workshop may also highlight the other types of visas international students may be interested in.

 

Beating Math

The aim of this workshop is to teach students how to excel in the various math classes that they may take in their engineering careers. The focus of this workshop will be on pre college students and how they can do great in their current math classes and prepare for future ones.
 

Effective Communication

This workshop aims to improve students communication skills. The presenter may do anything in regards to communication that they feel may help to advance the communication abilities of the students. 

 

First Aid 101

Knowing basic first aid is an important skill as it helps prevent infections, protect health, and save money for those involved. This workshops purpose to teach students basic first aid so that they can help themselves or others in situations where outside help may not be possible.
